This local shelter is usually full, and includes single adults as well as young families. While donations of bread, snacks and other single items are often available, the clients do not receive prepared meals. They are responsible for buying food and preparing their own meals, storing supplies and leftovers in their personal lockers.
The Dover Friendly Kitchen team provides a well-balanced meal for twenty people each Wednesday following our bi-monthly supper at St Thomas. We use disposable dishes suitable for warming in the oven. The meal can include a salad, vegetable, fruit, main course and desert. We suggest seasonings and ingredients be kept mid-range, and not exotic or extra spicy. There are no dietary restrictions, but if nuts are used please label the dish. No dishes or drinks are needed.
The Thursday morning Small Group is handling February 13. A St. John’s family volunteered for April 10. Commitments now are needed for June 12, August 14, October 9 and December 11. These dates can be adopted by families, small groups, individuals or committees.
Our Friendly Kitchen/My Friend’s Place team will consider expanding this commitment to twice-monthly if there is sufficient interest within our community. If you are interested in helping the homeless, call Patrick or Rita Murphy @557.2781.
