We will begin our Holy Week again this year with an “experience” of the Passion, as we “Journey Through Holy Week” – with special music and liturgy, reception of new members and a procession of the palms. All this takes place at both 9 and 10:30 AM services on March 24th.
To begin entering fully into the Passion of Jesus, we will gather for a Maundy Thursday communion service on March 28th, at 7 PM, in Hartford Hall. One of the traditions of our congregation is to be served in groups of twelve around a table – mimicking, in some fashion, the style in which Jesus would have shared the Passover meal with the twelve disciples.
And on Good Friday, there will be two opportunities to worship. The first will be an Ecumenical service, at noon, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, on the corner of Chestnut and Third Streets, where we will join our sisters and brothers from other Christian faith communities in Dover. And then at 7 PM, we will observe a Service of Shadows (or Tenebrae) at St. John’s.
Finally we will gather to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord on Easter Sunday, March 31st – beginning with the “First Fire” service at 6 AM, at our outdoor chapel – accompanied by bagpipes. Then we process into the sanctuary for the Sunrise Service, led by our high school youth, at 6:30 AM. The United Methodist Men will serve Easter breakfast following the Sunrise Service – approximately 7:30 AM. There’s no fee for the breakfast, but freewill donations are accepted. All this reaches its climax at our very similar 9 and 11
