St John’s is planning another mission trip to Staten Island, NY during the week of August 11-17. This will be our second trip to work on homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy in October 2012.

Last year our team consisted of 5 members and our trip was a total of 3 days. We spent 2 full days hanging drywall in a single family home. This year we are looking to put together a team of 10 and the work days that week will depend on the team assembled. Last year we found the shorter weekend mission was popular and we will strive to do that again this year. That may mean several groups working at various times over the week. We will decide on specific work days once we have committed team members.

You do not need to have any construction experience or bring any tools. St Bernard Project has partnered with Tunnels to Towers and other organizations on Staten Island and do an excellent job of managing projects, materials, tools and training at each job site. We have had people with no experience hanging drywall after a few hours of training.
