Our 10th VIM (Volunteers In Mission) Katrina team is scheduled to work in New Orleans the week of April 27, 2015. This is vacation week in many area schools, including Dover High. Ground transportation departing Saturday, April 25 is available, as well as one-way or round trip flights at additional cost.
We continue to work with the St. Bernard Project in Chalmette, LA www.stbernardproject.org . SBP has rebuilt over 500 homes, yet has 130 families on their waiting list pending funding and volunteers. Anyone fourteen or over is welcome to join our team, regardless of work skill level or experience. Training for specific tasks is provided by SBP Americorps volunteers.
Our housing again will be provided by the Bolian family in their new “Tree House” across Lake Ponchartrain in Slidell. Team members will have the option to attend Jazz Fest on May 2, prior to returning home. Included in the mission team fee are round trip ground transportation, accommodations, Louisiana meals by Chef Mike, ground transportation while in Louisiana and a $100 donation to the SBP for construction costs. This fee will be announced before our Information Night.
Please watch for additional news in the Bell-Wether and on this website. If you are interested in joining our team or have questions, speak with me any Sunday morning or contact me through the church office. All prospective members should attend Information Night at St. John’s on February 13 @6:30.
