As was the case last year, this year’s Church Conference agenda will look a lot like a worship service – to emphasize the fact that our ministries are actually “worshipful work.”
Church Conference is scheduled for Monday, November 30th at 7 PM. All members of the church are asked to be in attendance. Folks for whom St. John’s is their “church home” are also invited, and will have the opportunity to speak and ask questions, but the privilege of voting is reserved for members.
This year our Bishop has encouraged the Superintendents to “connect” with congregations in other ways than the usual annual meeting, so to facilitate that, our District Superintendent, Jim McPhee, has taken part in our time of visioning, back in September. So we don’t “run him ragged,” he has asked Rev. David Myers (the pastor of the Gloucester and Rockport, MA. UMC’s) to conduct our meeting. (Note: Dave is a good friend and card-playing buddy of Earle Custer—but don’t hold that against him!!)
We will accept the minutes of previous Church Conferences, approve Lay Servants, celebrate he retired clergy among us, elect our officers and committee members for 2016, thank God for the “saints” who have gone on to glory over the last year, share communion . . . .
See you in Hartford Hall on November 30th!
