St. John’s UMC will send their 11th VIM (Volunteers in Mission) team to work with the St. Bernard Project in New Orleans, LA. Our work week begins Monday, April 25 and ends Friday, April 29. This is school vacation for Dover High and several other area high schools.

SBP has rebuilt over 615 homes. Fifteen calls a week are received from individuals seeking rebuilding assistance, averaging 63 years of age. 25% more requests for help are received than a year ago. SBP serves low to moderate income residents with a special focus on families with young children, the elderly, disabled persons, war veterans, and under-and uninsured persons.

Mission team fees were $150 last year, but that included free housing. We have not yet settled on our housing arrangements. Depending on the preferences of team members, we may have a mix of those flying and those traveling to and from New Orleans by car. The fee includes ground transportation, food, a donation to the St. Bernard Project, mission tee shirts and other expenses.

All those interested in learning more about or joining the team should plan to attend Information Night in our Sanctuary on Friday, January 29 @ 6:30. Individuals age 14 and over are eligible to join. Further information can be found at www.stbernardproject.org or by calling the church office @603-742-3046.
