Outreach Ministries is again giving everyone an opportunity to make a suggested donation of $10 or more in honor or memory of one’s father, husband or special man. Names of those honored or memorialized will be included with the Father’s Day bulletin, and most importantly posted for the children to see at Dover Children’s Home.
All donated funds go directly to help make the summer more meaningful for these at-risk children. Some of the activities funded by this special collection are day passes to the Works Family Health and Fitness Center, Canobie Lake Park, or Fun Town/Splash Town; beach boogie boards; bottles of 30 SPF sunscreen; movie passes; gift cards to ice cream shops; dance, skating, riding or other classes or lessons.
Dover Children’s Home is a non-profit residential treatment program designed to provide a wide array of community-based residential care for boys and girls, ages 12 to 20. These children have emotional and behavioral difficulties from abuse, neglect or delinquent acts.
The Home provides a structured living environment where children are encouraged to develop more appropriate behaviors. Treatment is designed to help children develop social, emotional, academic and life skills in a safe and reliable home.
Staff at The Home do their best to put normalcy back into children’s lives. These kids are expected to do their homework, help with the house chores, go to school, make good decisions and attend after school activities.
The Home puts a focus on creating as many positive outlets for these children as possible. To be resilient against life’s challenges, kids need at least a few people they can count on to steer them in the right direction.
As one child said: “When I first came to Dover Children’s Home, I had already been kicked out of 10 other programs. I figured this place would be no different. Once I started having a hard time, I would be kicked out and never allowed to return. But, there is something different about Dover Children’s Home. Even when I mess up, they still want to help me and never give up on me.“
